Picking the right outfit to wear to Universal Studios is always a challenge.
You want to make sure that you are picking something that you like and feel good about but also something that is sensible, comfortable, and accommodating to the environment of being in a theme park.
There are a number of factors that can come into play when it comes to choosing the best outfit for Universal Studios, including weather, seasons, and chosen rides and activities. For example, even though Universal Studios is in Florida, and you may expect it to be warm and sunny all year round, you will likely still not wear the same outfit in the winter months compared to the summer months.

Comfort vs Style Theme Park Tips
We think the biggest question that comes into play when picking a Universal Studios outfit is โDo you go for comfort or style?โ We think that itโs important to note that you can absolutely have both! Comfort is always the most important factor for me, but just because youโre comfortable doesnโt mean you have to sacrifice style.
When you will be spending the day walking around a theme park, we always recommend picking clothing items that are loose-fitting, breathable, and flexible. Here are some basics to keep in mind when shopping:
- Lightweight, breathable material such as mesh fabrics, athletic wear, etc.
- Protective clothing, regardless of the temperature in Florida, you will want to ensure that you are protected from the sun. Keep in mind you may way to grab a hat or sunglasses for added protection.
- Lightweight Jacket, even in the warmest months of the year when the sun goes down or a rain shower hits, the temperature can become a bit chilly. We always like to grab a lightweight jacket to keep with us, you can always wrap it around your waist or throw it in a bag.
Universal Outfit Tips for Men
When it comes to outfit choices for men, it seems like they always have the easy way out! Men can grab a pair of shorts or jeans and a graphic t-shirt, and they look great, not only do they fit the theme, but they are also comfortable and casual. Ensure they grab a light jacket or sweatshirt in case the temperature drops.
Universal Outfit Tips for Women
Picking outfits as a woman is a bit more complicated; you want to make sure you choose an outfit that you feel confident and comfortable in, but you also want to make sure youโre cute and fashionable.
Some great options include leggings with a cute graphic t-shirt or a loose, flowing dress.
Dresses can be a bit tricky; youโll want to make sure that you wear something that is made from a comfortable material, such as a stretch or cotton dress, and that it is long enough to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.
Universal Outfit Tips for Teens
When it comes to teenagers packing, they are probably most concerned about what they are wearing! The teen years are those when they start to worry about how they look, and their bodies are changing, so it is an awkward time for everyone.
When it comes to picking a theme park outfit for teens, it may be best to keep it basic; leggings or athletic shorts are always an excellent option for girls and easily paired with a t-shirt and tank top. Be sure they carry a light jacket or sweatshirt to tie around their waist until needed.
Universal Outfit Tips for Kids
Finally, itโs time to talk about clothing for the kids! Kids are a little easier because when they are little, they pretty much will wear anything you pick out for them (within reason LOL).
We always like to stick to athletic-style clothing for the kiddos; you can never go wrong with stretchy pants or shorts paired with a t-shirt or light sweatshirt.
If they want to wear a character costume, that’s absolutely fine. You’ll find plenty of Potterheads in the full garb, and a fair few mini Spidermans (just be careful how hot and itchy they may get in a full-body outfit).
The only stated rule by Universal: Costumes cannot exceed 28โ wide x 80โ high to meet Universal Orlando’s metal detection regulations
Shoes for the Family
When it comes to shoes for a visit to Universal Studios, we typically recommend the same types of shoes for the whole family. We tend to reach for something that will give us comfort, support, and longevity. Some great theme park shoe options include athletic sneakers and memory foam sandals.
For the kids, we’ve found that the same summer hiking sandals they use are also a great fit for theme park days – Keen and Merrell are our go-to’s for looks, support, and comfort.
Preparing for What Happens During the Day At Universal
Depending on when you visit the parks, you could run into several unforeseen circumstances. Orlando is known for having pop-up rain showers, which may be the reason for you to have a rain poncho on hand.
Or maybe you hop on a water ride and get drenched; you may want to keep a change of clothes on hand (we’ve definitely found you’ll want either a pair of swimmers underneath your clothes or something to change into after visiting Dudley Do-Rightโs Ripsaw Falls and Popeye & Blutoโs Bilge-Rat Barges in Islands of Adventure).
Changes in the Seasons- Understanding Florida Weather
Orlando is typically somewhere that most people would associate with a warm and sunny environment, and most of the time, that is the case. However, as with any other place, there are fluctuations in the weather dependent on the time of the year and seasonal changes.
The Summer months in Orlando tend to have high temperatures and high humidity rates, making it pretty uncomfortable to wear a lot of clothing or layers. It is best to stick to lightweight materials, and our go-to outfit usually consists of shorts and tank tops, as little clothing as possible while still being covered up. The warmest months of the year in Orlando are typically from mid-June to mid-September.
In the winter season, while still warm and sunny most of the time, the temperatures do drop significantly, and you may find that your shorts and tank tops may not be the best choice.
Our go-to during the winter months is usually comfortable bottoms such as joggers or leggings paired with a long-sleeved t-shirt or a regular t-shirt and lightweight jacket, especially when the sun goes down, and the weather can be quite chilly.

Packing List for Universal Studios
While picking the right clothes for your visit to Universal Studios, that is not all you will need! Here are a few other essentials that you may want to consider packing in your Universal bag:
Water bottle
Unless you’re seeking the novelty of the refillable Universal Coke Freestyle cup, you’ll save a ton of money bringing your own reusable water bottle.
Portable Charger
We spend so much time on our phones these days, whether it is to access our park tickets, take photos or communicate with family and friends, your phone will likely not make it through a full theme park day without a re-charge.
First Aid
You never know when you may encounter a scraped knee or a bee sting in the parks, having some simple first aid essentials on hand will ensure that you are always prepared for anything.
Portable Fan
Did we mention that Florida sun is hot? A portable fan is a great tool to have on hand to avoid heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Snacks
Buying snacks in the park can be expensive; we always recommend packing a few non-perishable snacks in your bag that will keep the crew satiated throughout the day between meals within the park.
As Iโm sure youโve probably noticed as youโve read through this guide, we always recommend finding the most comfortable and functional outfit and accessories when it comes to prepping and dressing for a Universal Studios trip.
While comfort and sensibility are so important, that doesnโt mean that you have to sacrifice style! There are so many great cute, and comfortable styles out there; you just have to find them!
