Dreamy Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat Ocean View Villas – Luxury Family Retreat in Abu Dhabi

A beautiful new holiday villa option has opened right on our doorstep here in Abu Dhabi. Falling firmly in the boutique luxury offering for the UAE, these villa suites will appeal to families who like to have space and refinement when it comes to a relaxing mini break.

You may have heard of Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat glamping before, but the new extension is quite a different accommodation concept. It offers a selection of 17 private oceanfront villas and 14 overwater villas—some have said a touch of the Maldives, but this is truly a unique offering without the 4-hour flight!

Let’s take a detailed look at what families can expect from a Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat Villa stay in Abu Dhabi.

What is Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat?

Situated at Abu Dhabi’s leisure destination, Al Hudayriyat Island, Bab Al Nojoum originally opened in 2020 as a camping and glamping site. A touch of city meets the sea; these chic campsites bring a touch of fun to city retreats.

Just a stone’s throw away from the main Abu Dhabi island, you can have a relaxing beach escape full of BBQing, beach games, water sports, and movies under the stars.

Vacationers, and especially UAE staycationers, can take a weekend escape in a ready-made oceanfront tent, converted vintage camper or even upscale self-catering tents on the beach with a private pool.

A sleek new concept in a city perhaps better known for its luxury beach resorts and shiny towers, it’s been a real hit with more budget-conscious travellers or those looking to enjoy the freedom of an outdoor adventure with the family without the hassle of setting up their own tent.

The latest extension to Bab al Nojoum, however, might take you quite by surprise. Far from their camping cousins, Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat Villas is a brand-new luxury concept designed to give guests ultimate privacy and relaxation while still giving access to the fun outdoor activities that Bab Al Nojoum has become famous for.

Introducing the New Villas on Hudayriyat Island

Served by a separate entrance, and offering valet parking, along with a fine dining restaurant and bar, you are welcomed to Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat Villas with a refreshing tropical mocktail, provided with your property map and keys and escorted by golf cart to your room.

The villas are divided into two sections: the oceanfront villas, which have large private terraces and gardens, and the over-water villas, which offer infinity pools, small balconies, and stunning views.

Ocean View Villas

We stayed in one of the two-bedroom villas that can accommodate up to 5 guests. You get two separate bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, and the living room sofa can fold out into a bed.

The kids’ room has 2 single beds, so there’s no arguments over touching! Meanwhile the master contains a wonderfully soft king-sized bed.

The living room space inside is quite small (OK, average homes in the UAE are ridiculously big!), but let’s be honest, you’ll be spending all your time other than sleeping and showering outside!

Room Amenities

There’s not much they haven’t thought of inside your villas. From the Molton Brown toiletries to the fluffy white robes and slippers – and sweet finishing touches like turn down chocolates left on your pillow. You have all the amenities here you’d expect in a luxury 5-star resort.

Other than the fact we wished that the larger rain shower could be in the master ensuite and bathtub in the kid’s room – maybe just a Western cultural preference?! we really couldn’t fault the room set up.

The Swimming Pool & Garden

Now, let’s get on to the good stuff because, frankly, this is why you choose a private pool villa: the gorgeous temperature-controlled pool! (And yes, even in the UAE, you need temperature-controlled pools in winter!!)

It was marked at 1.4m deep, but my son is 1.4m and can stand with his head totally clear of the water, so it’s certainly not made for swimming laps but an ultra-relaxing treat.

The in-pool deck chairs make this an easy task, or bask in the sunloungers, play games at the family table or take a swing in the hammock.

The garden also has a sunset gazebo, and true to its name, ideal for watching the sun disappear behind the overwater villas.

Over Water Villas

We’ve also been lucky enough to take a few peaks inside Bab Al Nojoum’s overwater villa offering. There are 12 one-bedroom suites and two rather exclusive family-sized two-bedroom suites.

Here’s a little look at what you can get inside the Hudayriyat Over Water Villas:

They are absolutely as magical as they look, but in all honesty, with kids, we’d stick to the Ocean View villas. The reason is that you get so much more space outside, without the constant fear of your little ones wanting to jump into the azure waters below from the balcony – a strict no-no here.

If you are looking for a couples or romantic treat, though, the overwater villas at Bab Al Nojoum would be perfect.

Dining at Bab Al Nojoum

At Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat, guests have several different dining options. They can choose to dine at La Coccina, dine in-room, or visit the casual eatery 28 Degrees at the camping site.

The villas also offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a half-board or all-inclusive package, which includes everything except mini bar drinks, which are chargeable (or can be removed from your villa if you prefer).

The tastefully decorated fine-dining restaurant La Coccina is conveniently located between the two sets of villas, and a cart service is available to transport guests to and from their rooms (we are normally happy walkers, but this was most welcome after some full bellies!).

If you are not on a dining plan, you can order a la carte at La Coccina or take advantage of the dining facilities within your room and order from room service up to 11:30 pm.

We chose the all-inclusive, which includes the special Chef Joanna Community Dining menu—it is extensive and extremely tasty! It also includes an extensive drinks menu to enjoy with your meals.

Staff are attentive, knowledgeable and entertaining at La Coccina and we couldn’t fault their hospitality and service. They were flexible when my Mr Fussy wanted nothing on the menu to adapt to his taste.

We went on an unusually cold and windy evening, but if you’re visiting in the autumn or spring, do take advantage of the gorgeous alfresco dining here!

Recreation Activities At Bab Al Najoum Hudayriyat

Guests staying at the villas Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat still have complete access to the recreation facilities at the resort’s glamping and camping side.

We happened to time our visit with possibly the windiest day ever in Abu Dhabi, so we couldn’t get out there to try the water sports, but there’s a great variety of non-motorized water sports on offer at the water sports centre, just a short walk along the beach from the villas.

Bab al Nojoum Hudayriyat offers a varied schedule of activities for every day of the week, from arts and crafts to bonfires and movie nights at their outdoor cinema.

The camping site also includes a large rustic playground area with shared outdoor games, a large lawn for running around, and organized sports games.

More Recreation Activities on Hudayriyat

If you’re planning a longer stay, there are a load of recreation activities you can enjoy on Hudayriyat Island beyond the resort. Kids, in particular, will enjoy:

  • Circuit X – offering a high ropes course, zipping, BMX biking, a skate park and a water park, this is a haven for adventure seekers!
  • Hire a Bike – there are multiple bike tracks on Hudayriyat island; just choose the length and the type of terrain you want to tackle, from road racing to mountain biking at Trail X. Bikes can be hired at Wolfis, just a few minutes by car from the villas.
  • Marsana & Hudayriyat Beach – a selection of dining spots and further water sports can be found here, including an inflatable aqua park, Sahara Marine for motorised water sports and a few quite sizeable and free play parks.

  • Alternatives: Presently, Bab Al Nojoum is the only accommodation on Hudayriyat Island. There are few other direct comparables to the Bab Al Nojoum villa-only resort experience near the city, but if you’re looking for pool villas attached to a resort-style set-up, you can consider Park Hyatt and Rixos Premium, both on Saadiyat Island. If you’re prepared to take a boat, you can look at Al Maya Island and Narui Island, which both offer private villa-style accommodation.

Bab Al Nojoum Glamping Vs Luxury Villas

If you’re weighing up between the campsite or glamping tents and the villas (there is a considerable price difference), we’d base it on whether you think the kids will want to spend most of their time independently exploring and enjoying the other recreation activities on offer.

Our kids have very quickly moved from a need to constantly monitor them and our daya revolving around naps and meal times to our staycays being based on socialisation.

Staying at the glamping and campsite end of Bab Al Nojoum has the advantage that older kids can come and go as they please from their accommodation and easily join in with other children in the communal areas. They can still access these facilities whilst staying at the villas, but be mindful that it’s a considerable walk.

If you are there as a couple or small family wanting to spend time with one another and enjoy the tranquillity and privacy that villas bring, then the luxury end of the resort is ideal for you.

Although we’ve yet to test the strength of the AC in the glamping tents, we think the villas would hold up much better once the warmer weather of summer hits Abu Dhabi (and stays for a good 6-7 months of the year).

Either way, you’ll have an unforgettable experience at Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat. It remains one of the most unique accommodation concepts in Abu Dhabi, and it is well worth getting on your UAE itinerary, whether you’re an overseas visitor or looking for unique UAE staycation ideas.

Be aware that the family villas are limited in number, and they’re booking up FAST! You will need to plan early if you want to enjoy an incredible villa experience at Bab Al Nojoum this spring!
